Sofia (Arrival)
Greetings from Bulgaria! After you land at the airport, take a ride to the hotel and relax. Spend the night in Sofia.
Sofia
Discover Sofia after breakfast by going to the National Theatre, the parliament, the presidential building, Saint Sofia Church, St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and Roman remains. Proceed to Rila Monastery after lunch to take in its architecture and murals. Later, spend the night back in Sofia. (B, L)
Sofia – Plovdiv – Sofia
Travel to Plovdiv, the 2019 European Capital of Culture, after breakfast to see the Roman Stadium, the Ancient Theatre, and a museum. Take advantage of your leisure time before returning to Sofia in the evening to spend the night after a late meal and wine tasting at a neighboring village winery. (B, L)
Plovdiv – Rose Valley – Veliko Tarnovo
Visit Kazanlak and the fabled Valley of the Roses after breakfast. Visit a rose distillery and take a drive through rose farms. Discover ancient Thracian tombs in the Valley of the Thracian Kings later. Proceed to Veliko Tarnovo, the Second Bulgarian Empire's medieval capital. Spend the night at Veliko Tarnovo. (B)
Veliko Tarnovo – Sofia
Explore Veliko Tarnovo, the former capital of Bulgaria, after breakfast. Explore the well-known Bulgarian museum town of Arbanassi. Discover the Birth of Christ Church, renowned for its breathtaking murals and biblical images created by unidentified artists. Afterwards, go back to Sofia and make your hotel reservation. Spend the night in Sofia. (B)
